{"id":16641,"date":"2022-02-02T12:35:29","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T08:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/geworld.ge\/en\/?p=16641"},"modified":"2022-06-11T07:25:02","modified_gmt":"2022-06-11T03:25:02","slug":"ukraines-president-told-biden-to-calm-down-russian-invasion-warnings-saying-he-was-creating-unwanted-panic-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geworld.ge\/en\/ukraines-president-told-biden-to-calm-down-russian-invasion-warnings-saying-he-was-creating-unwanted-panic-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine&#8217;s president told Biden to &#8216;calm down&#8217; Russian invasion warnings, saying he was creating unwanted panic: report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul><li><strong>Biden and Zelensky spoke by phone Thursday about the threat of Russia invading Ukraine.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Biden told Zelensky that Russia may invade in February, the White House said.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Zelensky told Biden to tone down his predictions as they were creating panic, a Ukrainian official told CNN.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told President Joe Biden to &#8220;calm down the messaging&#8221; about the threat of a Russian invasion because it was stirring panic,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2022\/01\/27\/politics\/biden-zelensky-call\/index.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CNN reported, citing an unnamed Ukrainian official<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biden and Zelensky spoke by phone Thursday amid rising tensions between Russia \u2014 which is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/russian-invasion-of-ukraine-could-lead-to-open-confrontation-with-nato-experts-2022-1?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">amassing tens of thousands of troops<\/a>&nbsp;at Ukraine&#8217;s border \u2014 Ukraine, the US, and NATO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biden told Zelensky on Thursday that a Russian invasion could happen as soon as February, when the ground freezes over,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/emilyhorne46\/status\/1486836236434264066\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted<\/a>&nbsp;Emily Horne, White House National Security Council spokesperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Zelensky told Biden in the call that Ukraine did not agree with the US assessment, and that it was bringing panic that could later bring economic hardship to Ukraine, CNN reported, citing a senior Ukrainian official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zelensky also told Biden to &#8220;calm down the messaging,&#8221; CNN reported, citing the official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White House did not immediately respond to Insider&#8217;s request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/01\/27\/readout-of-president-bidens-call-with-president-zelenskyy-of-ukraine-2\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">official White House readout of Biden&#8217;s call<\/a>&nbsp;did not mention Zelensky&#8217;s reported concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official told CNN that the call &#8220;did not go well.&#8221; The White House told the network that characterization was false and that anonymous sources were &#8220;leaking falsehoods.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White House also disputed a claim by Alexander Marquardt, CNN&#8217;s senior national security correspondent, who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarquardtA\/status\/1486821462338064392\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted Thursday<\/a>&nbsp;that Biden told Zelensky during the call that Kyiv could be &#8220;sacked&#8221; by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/russia-posts-video-drills-missile-launchers-near-ukraine-border-2022-1?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Russian forces.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Horne, the NSC spokesperson,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/emilyhorne46\/status\/1486836236434264066\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted<\/a>: &#8220;This is not true. President Biden said that there is a distinct possibility that the Russians could invade Ukraine in February. He has previously said this publicly &amp; we have been warning about this for months. Reports of anything more or different than that are completely false.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biden&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ukraine-biden-would-consider-putin-personal-sanctions-if-russia-invades-2022-1?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said Tuesday<\/a>&nbsp;that the US would personally sanction Putin should Russia invade Ukraine.
